Low Back Pain
Low Back Pain That Catches You Off Guard
Reviewed by Dr. Dustin Dukart, DC
One day it’s fine. The next you can barely get up off the couch — whether you know exactly what triggered it (a bad lift, too many hours at a desk) or it just crept up on you. We see this a lot here in Saint Paul Park — and it’s rarely a mystery once someone actually looks.

He is very knowledgeable and we talked through the timeline of my injury. He got me the info I needed for my back pain and helped with a rehab program. Not pushy and very careful.

A Real Exam, Not a Quick Look
We start with a red-flag screening to rule out the rare but serious causes of back pain, then a hands-on exam — a cluster of findings, not one quick test, since any single test alone is less reliable than the full picture. From there we build a personalized exercise plan around the movements that actually help your specific pattern, not a generic handout.
If the pain travels past your buttock and down your leg, that points toward sciatica, often from a herniated disc — the exam includes specific tests to check for it. Pain that stays in the buttock or groin can be the hip instead, and pregnancy-related back and pelvic pain is checked differently again.
Evidence-Informed Care
Low back pain has some of the strongest evidence behind it of any condition chiropractic care treats — the American College of Physicians’ own clinical guideline recommends spinal manipulation and other non-drug treatment as a first-line option before medication.
Ready When You Are
If low back pain relief is what you’re after, most new patients are seen within a few days.
