Quick answer: most individual, employer, and Medicare plans cover it as part of an active treatment plan. The one real exception is Medical Assistance/MinnesotaCare for adults 21+, which stopped covering chiropractic care January 1, 2026 — see below.
Most Individual, Employer, and Medicare Plans Cover It
Most individual/family, Medicare, and employer-provided health plans in Minnesota cover chiropractic care when it’s part of an active treatment plan — not unlimited, ongoing wellness visits, but a real course of care for a real issue. What you actually owe (copay, deductible, coinsurance) depends entirely on your specific plan, which is why we check your actual benefits before you book rather than quoting a number that might not be right.
A Real Change: Medical Assistance / MinnesotaCare, Effective January 1, 2026
As of January 1, 2026, Minnesota Medical Assistance and MinnesotaCare no longer cover chiropractic care for adults 21 and older — a change made during the 2025-2026 legislative session. Coverage for patients under 21 continues, limited to one annual evaluation and 24 visits per year (more with prior authorization). If you’re on MA or MinnesotaCare and over 21, chiropractic care would currently be a cash visit rather than an insurance-billed one.
Auto Accidents and Workers’ Comp Are Separate
If you were hurt in a car accident or at work, auto injury (No-Fault) and workers’ compensation coverage are entirely separate systems from regular health insurance — and unaffected by the Medical Assistance change above. See our auto accident & whiplash page → for how that documentation process works.
